Deviousness |
i recently was reading a book by a master landscape painter (John Carlson) and he brought up something i never really thought about but see it all the time now when i'm out and about.
the sky will (usually, there are always exceptions to the rule of course) always be the lightest part of the painting. the sky is the light source and in the natural world it will be the lightest element in the work. we can all agree that metals and plastics that reflect will have those shiny highlights but the overall color will still be a little darker.
i guess this all came to mind since the sky is so much darker. but i like the idea of the polluted sky. works for me.
The advantage with a subject like this is the ability to bend the traditional rules of light. I think by creating a darker sky, it takes us out of the comfort zone a bit, if the sky looks that wrong, whatt else is wrong with the enviroment ( acid rain, waste lands etc. )
Thanks for having a look.
